3rd party inks, I have discovered that this is a major issue and that HP is notorious for its aggressive efforts to keep HP printer owners locked into buying their vastly overpriced in cartridges at full retail She said, "I'm afraid I can't help you sir", then hung up on me. I asked her, if, considering the fact that I have owned HP products for 20+ years and have never before asked for tech support, she was just going to leave me hanging in mid-air. She also mentioned something about 'firmware', lectured me on what she referred to as the equivalent of taking a Ford engine, shoving into a GMC vehicle, blowing the transmission and then expecting GMC to fix it for free. I attempted to ask her another question, which she refused to answer, telling me that the only way I will get further assistance is to pay for it,and even then in order to get the help needed with what she referred to as a "reset", I would have to be using HP cartridges and no other. I told her 'No', whererupon her entire demeanor changed, she curtly informed me that HP will not provide technical assistance unless the ink cartridges are genuine HP products.
Then she asked me if my ink cartridges are genuine HP cartridges.

I called HP Tech Support, and the tecnician led me through a series of basic disgnostics that did not solve the problem. I brought them back to my office and put them back into the printer, expecting everything to work perfectly.ĭespite having disconnected and reinitialized both the printer and my computer several times, and even reloading the printer software, both of the ink warning lights are still blinking on and off and the printer is unusable. They refilled and checked out just fine on the Walgreens system. Believing that the black cartridge was probably also close to being empty, I pulled it as well, and I took both cartridges to Walgreens for refilling. While attempting to print a business letter, both of the "Attention!" lights on the Control Panel that pertain to the ink cartridges suddenly started blinking on and off, and an error message appeared on my computer screen, saying that there was an unspecified problem with the color cartridge.Īssuming that the color cartridge was empty (which I suspect may very well have been true), I removed it.
I have had no problems with doing this, until yesterday. To save money, I have for several months been taking my empty ink cartridges to Walgreens and having them refilled. I have an HP DeskJet F4100 All-In-One printer.
